Choosing to leave the United States when you are younger and still working can be tough enough. But older Americans who are relocating in retirement to a new country with a foreign-national partner or spouse potentially face even greater challenges as they create new social networks while also learning another language and culture, and integrating into a new way of life. Leaving behind everything and everyone you know, from your college roommate to your grandchildren, can create a sense of dislocation.
