Most workers saving for retirement in a 401(k) plan aren’t following the time-honored advice to rebalance their portfolios, the process of rejiggering the portfolio back to the mix of stocks, bonds and cash established as a blueprint.In fact, just 15% of defined contribution retirement plan participants rebalanced their portfolios in 2014, according to Aon Hewitt’s analysis of 138 defined contribution plans, representing 3.5 million eligible workers.And even if you eliminate workers invested in target-date funds or other premixed portfolio options — which do not require rebalancing — only 1 in 5 (19%) rebalanced, according to Rob Austin, director of Retirement Research at Aon Hewitt, in Charlotte.
